Online Course Information
Drive Smart Idaho partners with Idaho Online Driver Education to provide everything students need to complete the classroom portion of Driver’s Education through a convenient online format. The program is led by owner and classroom instructor Brian Johns, who brings nearly 30 years of experience in Idaho Driver’s Education, including five years as the State Director overseeing all Driver Ed programs in Idaho.
As an Idaho native, Brian has deep knowledge of the state’s roads, driving conditions, and real-world traffic patterns. Drive Smart Idaho selected Idaho Online Driver Education for its flexibility, high-quality instruction, and personalized learning experience, ensuring students receive trusted, state-aligned education that prepares them for safe, confident driving.
How Does the process worK?
Step 1: Get Documents & Information
Be prepared by knowing the Idaho requirements for obtaining a permit from the DMV! Drive Smart Idaho has put together a great starting point on our FAQ. Click here to get your most common questions answered!
Step 2: Enroll Online
Enroll online for Drive Smart Idaho Driver's Ed by providing basic student and guardian information (if applicable) and submitting payment.
Step 3: Online Coursework
After enrollment, Student is immediately provided access to online coursework and can begin completing classroom requirements.
Step 4: Behind-the-Wheel Instruction
Drive Smart Idaho monitors your online progress. Once 25% of coursework is completed, in-person behind-the-wheel instruction begins.
Step 5: Practice
Behind-the-wheel driving instruction continues alongside online coursework until Idaho-required time 6-hours of driving time is completed.
Step 6: Driving Permit!
After successfully completing both classroom and behind-the-wheel requirements, Drive Smart Idaho issues your Supervised Instruction Permit.
